CANDLELIGHT YIN YOGA
| BEGINNER FRIENDLY CLASS |
Class Description
Yin Yoga Class Description Yin Yoga is a style of yoga that targets the connective tissues, such as the ligaments, bones, fascia and the joints of the body that normally are not exercised very much in a more active style of yoga. It is a perfect complement to the dynamic and muscular (yang) styles of yoga that focuses on the lengthening and contracting of the muscles and faster flowing movements. Yin Yoga targets the connective tissues of the hips, pelvis, lower spine and shoulders. The experience of Yin Yoga is a slow and meditative practice that relies on gravity to get into the joints and connective tissues rather than muscular energy. Instead of moving quickly from one pose to the next, Yin poses (asanas) are held for a longer period (1-5 minutes), allowing us to settle into our bodies, become still, and connect to our breath. The basic premise of Yin Yoga has three parts. First, we come into the posture and find our edge. Then we find stillness in the posture and hold the posture for time. Holding the postures longer also allows us to go deeper into the pose and gain a better understanding of the asanas. This practice is perfect for all practitioners who wish to increase their range of mobility and bring balance to a fast- paced lifestyle by slowing down, going inward and being in the present moment. Props are provided to support practitioners at any level.
